fashions her intimate, poetic, oddly child-like songs from the bare minimum of resources. The Israeli’s lyrics are haiku-like and seemingly designed to work sonically as well as narratively. With Weiss less is definitely more.
In Tel Aviv, 1995. The vocal performance of Mike Patton left me speechless.
a song guaranteed to make you feel depressed
Any song by Sting will do the work.
record you were looking for the longest
The Churchills - Open Up Your Eyes
The original vinyl edition of The Churchills' self-titled debut album from 1968. Still the best psych album from Israel (no competition there… ) and one of the best psychedelic albums anywhere. Ridiculously rare and sought after.
perfect song to end a party with
John Cage - 4:33
a record you fell in love to
Love - Forever Changes
first record you remember
Poogy - Poogy Be'Pita (Poogy In A Pita-Bread)
One of the Israeli records my father had in his record collection. As a child I used to listen to it over and over again. I was enchanted by the humor and the fun feeling in this album. «Poogy» (in Israel they were known as «Kaveret» – a beehive) were probably the most important and successful Israeli band in the mid 70's.

your ultimate heartbreak song
Henry Purcell - Dido's Lament
«When I am laid in earth» from Henry Purcell's opera – «Dido and Aeneas». A Baroque most simple but heart-rending aria on a beautiful ground bass.
your party anthem

first record you bought
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
After learning «Abbey Road» by heart as a child, (without understanding a single word), I began playing the trumpet. «Sgt. Pepper» was the first attraction.
a song that reminds your friends of you
Tunng - Tale From Black
best soundtrack ever
Harry Nilsson - The Point
Benoit Charest - The Triplets Of Belleville
Accidently, both are charming animated movies too.
your sunday morning song
Joanna Newsom - Emily
A through-composed ballade that sounds like nothing else. And I love Joanna's devilish-sweet high-pitched voice. In Israel it's Saturday, by the way.
perfect anthem for Tel Aviv
Zeev Tene - Tel Aviv/Winter
a song you wish you'd written yourself
Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine
The Phantom Band
the song to be played at your funeral
The Jam - Going Underground
The Chromatics are finally back. After their very promising debut they took some time to come back with an album that finally shows the full potential of what Johnny Jewel & co is capable of. Where «In The City» left off ...
