best Beatles song
The Beatles - Because
This is from the album «Abbey Road». Eveytime I listen to it it sucks me in and blows my head. Lennon's lyrics and harmonies are breathtaking and make you realise just what all the fuss was about. «Because the world is round, it turns me on... Because the wind is high, it blows my mind.. Because the sky is blue, it makes me cry». Not bad for a hippy in a white suit!
your boozed up anthem
George Kranz - Din Daa Daa
Any song that makes you play air drums and want to get inebriated everytime you hear it works for me. Sounds like organised chaos. Balearic beer tune.
a record you fell in love to
Nick Drake - Riverman
One hot Summer on the south coast in the early nineties I discovered Nick Drake's music and my first love all at once. All too much for ones young heart to handle. Beautiful song, beautiful memories.
first record you remember
Bay City Rollers - Bye Bye Baby
I was 5 years old. Apparently my first obsession, I loved it so much that my mother chose to dress me in Tartan and buy me a mini drum kit. Very sharp.... thanks mum.
the song to be played at your funeral
Henry Mancini - Moon River
«Moon River... wider than a mile I'm crossing you in style some day...». Nice lyrics to eventually float down stream to.
your ultimate heartbreak song
Spiritualized - Broken Heart
A song showing Jason Pierces heart literally bleeding from a lost love. So heavy it hurts.
Colin Blunstone - Say You Don't Mind
A song all about regret. I managed to listen to it on repeat when a long relationship ended a couple years ago.
first record you bought
Adam & The Ants - Kings Of The Wild Frontier
The first record I payed for with my pocket money at about 9 years old. Adam Ant was my second obsession. I found him otherwordly. I still adore the record. Battle cries and tribal drums. How could you not. Genius.
a song you wish you'd written yourself
T. Rex - Cosmic Dancer
Effortless celestial genius. A song to create an atmosphere like no other I've heard. This song should be under the word «cosmic» in the dictionary.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Her Eyes Are A Blue A Million Miles
A dear friend of mine in Berlin played me this and turned me green with envy. From the title alone. Beautiful passionate poetic lyrics and melody whilst sounding like someone playing a fender in a swamp. A groove to die for.
