Gary Numan
single-handedly defined a whole genre with «Cars»: New Wave. Bored by punk rock he formed The Tubeway Army together with Paul Gardiner. «Are Friends Electric?» was Numan’s first No. 1 hit and was one of the first synth-pop songs to inspire a wider audience. Numan is titled the «godfather of electronic music» and is idiolized by musicians like Marilyn Manson, Trent Reznor and Dave Grohl.
In my school T. Rex were huge, almost everyone loved them. We would invade the local record store every time a new single came out until we were banned.
In London. For sheer spectacle and power it remains unbeaten.
