is according to Resident Advisor without doubt the most important disco club night in the world. The night's wide-ranging music policy, focus on production details and an outrageous polysexual crowd have made HMD the darling of the music press and switched on clubbers alike. James Hillard and Jim Stanton (and new members Luke Howard and Severino Panzetta) are not only hosting parties in London, but are playing all over the world. Their mix compilations are essential.
If you were stranded on a deserted island you would...
take these three books along:
I'm not an avid reader by any means but I guess I'd take something inspirational like Nelson Mandela's prison diaries. Something that's hard work like Umberto Eco's «Foucaults Pendulum» and something ridiculously long like «War and Peace» by Tolstoi. It's a chliche I know but I might as well take the chance to see if it's any good!
take these three CDs/records with you:
Dusty Springfield - Dusty In Memphis
I don't think I could take an eternity on a desert island without the amazing vocals of the best British soul singer ever. And «Dusty in Memphis» is an amazing album with Dusty's sexy, sultry and soulful voice at its best (even though she was ill whilst recording it).
The 3 hour mix from Daniele Baldelli's first appearance at Horse Meat Disco. Its three hours of the most incredible music of which I have so far not got bored of.
The Carpenters
The complete works of The Carpenters. I find the music of Richard and Karen Carpenter uplifting as well as beautiful. Karen's voice is that of pure bliss and there would be nothing more I like to do than to belt out the songs in complete isolation. They are very simple songs and great to sing along to although they wouldn't be the same without the richness of Karen.
take these three DVDs along:
«Bladerunner» by Ridley Scott. Maybe finally I'll get to see the whole thing without falling asleep. Not because it's boring - far from it. I think I've seen all of it just not chronologically. It seems there has never been a right time for me to watch it. / The complete box set of «ER». That's a lot of viewing there and it's still my favourite show. / 30 Rock box set. Currently rocking my comedy world and I've already watched them all twice!
take these three games along:
Swingball: the only child's game of choice. / Mahjong: a game that has always fascinated me but I have no idea how to play. / Boggle/scrabble. I think I'd need some kind of word game to keep my mind sane.
start to learn these three things:
Arabic, Semiotics and Surgery!
subscribe to these three newspapers / magazines:
The Guardian / Butt magazine / iD... Politics, porn and erm Phasion!
miss these three things the most about living in a city:
Jerk Chicken!, Architecture, my home.
invite these three persons for a weekend:
No-one! Seeing anyone knowing that they would have to leave so soon is just too sad.
get these three pets:
My Boston Terrier Rocco. He's the love of my life and the best company. I'd love a chimp and a dolphin if they were going. They're supposed to be intelligent and I could do with some stimulating company. I was going to say a couple of pigs as I could breed them and eat them but even though I'm the son of a butcher I don't think I could ever bring myself to kill them.
learn these three songs by heart:
Liza Minnelli - Liza With A Z
Not so much three songs but the whole score of Liza Milelli's «Liza With A Z» would probably make me happy.
take these three tools with you:
a hammer / a saw / a harpoon... self explanitary really
are finally back. After their very promising debut they took some time to come back with an album that finally shows the full potential of what Johnny Jewel & co is capable of. Where «In The City» left off ...
