is a legend in his own right. He was the fist DJ to produce his own record («Kiss Me Again» in 77 with Arthur Russell). His own club The Gallery was New York’s hottest disco for years. It was here that future superstars like Grace Jones or Loleatta Holloway had their first appearances. Before The Gallery finally closed its doors in 1978, Siano was also a resident at Studio 54. He is still DJing and producing records to this day.
To the radio, trying to hear what commercial bullshit is out there.
you ride a bicycle?
I rarely ride, but I usually don’t listen to music when I ride, it can be a hazard.
you go to a club?
I prefer house music and eclectic sets. I never mind hearing a rock record, or an old record and a new record back to back. And I leave clubs where the music sound like one long song...That is soooooo boring!
you prepare for an important date?
New house. I like house music, it makes me happy.
you are in a depressive mood?
Laura Nyro
you want to disturb your neighbours?
Anything I'm producing, cause I play it over and over and over until they throw up.
you drive a car late at night?
Anita Baker
Or Mellow jazz. Not loud either. In a car the sound usually is not so good, I’d rather listen to something low, then something loud and distorted.
you fall asleep?
I like the quiet when I fall asleep, so the radio is not on.
you watch girls go by?
I don’t.
you are love sick?
I watch TV when I’m sick... I don’t listen to music.
you make love?
Rock... I love to fuck to rock... It gets me excited.
you sit in a plane?
I usually listen to the music I’m thinking of playing for my set. Because when I'm on a plane I’m usually traveling to a gig. So it’s usually new house music.
you have to spend a night in a spooky hotel?
Oh, I’d watch a horror movie to really get into the scene and freak myself out a bit. Go over the edge and run into the hall naked.
you sit in the subway?
I rarely listen to music on the subway. I read. I have many interests and I try to fit them all in.
you wake up?
I like to listen to new music. Something I’ve been sent, or bought recently and haven’t listened to yet. I’m most open to new music in the AM.
