is either an electronica artist with pop appeal or a pop musician with a soft spot for electronica. Either way round he is giving progressive pop a kitsch-free futuristic thrust that sets the standard for 21st century practitioners of the genre. The ex-journo who lives now in San Francisco must have heard too much music so far, since on his albums he’s trying to assimilate sixty years of pop music’s history.

I was actually miserable during the summer of 1993, spending my time in Mexico listening to this CD and wishing I was back home in Dallas. But through sheer mystical angst, Mayan ruins, and hard crushing for girls both at home and abroad, that summer showed me a lot.
I can’t actually listen to this unless I'm heartbroken. Too sentimental.
