you feel like 1982?
Michael Jackson - Thriller
you come home from the club?
Something off of the Blue Thumb record label.
you float on an air mattress in the pool?
Stanley Turrentine - Salt Song
Featuring the CTI string section. Man, you haven’t heard strings until you’ve heard CTI strings. Shit feels like your on the edge of the world looking into a sky blue infinity of crashing waves. There is nothing like it.
you take a bubble bath?
I don’t do it. No bubble bath. I don’t like baths because I lived in England for a year with nothing but a bath and by the end I hated the whole ordeal of having to take a bath (filthy way to bath) when you just wanted to jump in the shower really quick and get out into the world.
you prepare a candle light dinner?
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis
you go to a club?
Selda - Katip Arzuhalim Yaz Yare Böyle
She is a turkish folk goddess, and this is her first album from 1971. She was or still is very political and was arrested several times.
you run naked through a cornfield?
The Flirtations - Nothing But A Heartache
The lost girl group. Also they’re lost self titled album. It’s like a bomb of inspiration going off in your head and chest. As Miles said: «The shit just gets all up in your body!»
you prepare for an important date?
Ike & Tina Turner
you want to disturb your neighbours?
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds Of Fire
you drive a car late at night?
BLO - Chant To Mother Earth
Nigerian rock from the 70’s. For instance: «Chant To Mother Earth» (off the fabolous «Nigeria Rock Special» compilation) which just came out on Soundway. It’s a new label by this guy Miles Cleret who spent years in Africa to dig out obscure gems. It’s really freaky shit.

Stephen Stills
Any Stills song, à la the stuff he wrote for the first Crosby, Stills & Nash album.
you make love?
Lee Morgan - Tom Cat
you meet your parents?
Bill Withers
you sit in a plane?
Glen Campbell - Reunion
I was recommended the «Reunion» album by Glen Campbell playing the songs of Jimmy Webb. And I was listening to that on my last flight. Perfect for a gin and tonic at 35000 ft at the end of an intense tour, heading home.
you shop for shoes?
Elevator music plays in the stores. Or some other horrible shit. When I shop for shoes it’s a big deal cause I only do it every couple of years. I need to focus too intently to pay attention to the music on in shoe stores.
you have to spend a night in a spooky hotel?
Catherine Ribeiro
She has a stunning and beautiful voice. You don’t even need the hotel to get completely zapped by Catherine. AMAZING!
you stay in bed?
The Velvet Underground - Loaded
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
«Loaded» is for the mornings that you’re just in bed but it’s like a transmogrifier. You’re jacked on coffee and the bed is an inspirational muse. For instance sunday mornings, with your wife, with the big paper spread all over the bed and you may go from coffee to champagne. «Tusk» is more for when you lay down mid day on a sunny day and pull a translucent shade to block the glare and you are laying and resting, meditating and half way in between sleep and wake and you are listening to those beautiful voices. That’s laying in bed in an LA bungalo afternoon style.
you sit in the subway?
Harry Nilsson
Harry Nilsson is someone who really understood the majesty of life as we know it. Of love, hate and struggle and he was someone who perhaps revelled even more in the cruel irony that surrounds peaks and valleys of the human condition. Being in the subway and really engaging with the rat race goes perfect with Nilsson. Though really anything does. Anyway, Harry Nilsson is one of the greatest songwriters and singers EVER!
you wake up?
Joni Mitchell - The Hissing Of The Summer Lawns
Joni Mitchell - Ladies Of The Canyon
Lately, I often listened to Joni Mitchell when I get up. Like shit off of «Hissing Of The Summer Lawns» or «Ladies Of The Canyons». Or some jazz music. A little more mellow stuff like early Miles Davis or Charles Mingus. Or if I’m getting jacked up on coffee or tea, some later Miles (from his fusion era). I like the first music in the morning to be mellow though. The first thing in the morning, drinking tea or coffee and listening to music and sitting at the bay window looking out over the neighborhood is kind of my meditational time these days. The day usually gets overly active, busy and rushed after that.
