is a production/DJ duo from Washington D.C. Andrew Field-Pickering (Maxmillion Dunbar) and Ari Goldman are the flagship crew of the synth-wave Future Times label, and have rapidly gathered a cult following of vinyl obsessives and club hustlers alike with their leftfield boogie collage and spatial balearica.
«Open Shadow» was released in July 2011 on Future Times.
M: When I feel like going back in time one year before my birth I wanna hear some deep in the womb shit. Probably a Vainqueur 12".
A: Must admit I'm more of an '83 guy (year I was born) for all that sleazy boogie funk. 1982 for me is still ripped jeans tunes like «Eminence Front».
A: That will be rough as I have a tendency to fall asleep rather easily. Honestly, comedy albums keep me up the best. David Cross or Katt Williams might do the trick.
M: Usually I am not trying to hear shit when I come home from the club. Buuuuut maybe some «Moments In Love»? If I'm driving home in the early AM it's garaunteed to be on the radio around here!
A: You gotta keep it chill. Often absolutely nothing is just fine for me. Maybe the morning news? Hahaha.
M: Any song.
A: Gonna have to put on an album cause I'm gonna take a long ass bubble bath. «The Quest» would be perfect (Bubble Metropolis).
M: Not the Queen song, though that slays.
A: Not very good at biking. Definitely gonna just be concentrating hard on my surroundings.
A: U gotta keep it sleazy.
M: I'm trying to either see the music I came to see, which will hopefully be earth-shattering, or something unexpectedly mellow.
A: I usually like a DJ that plays a wide selection of tunes. Gotta keep it fresh. But nothing is better than hearing «Good Life» when you are partying with your buddies!
M: Jazz is it for cooking food.
A: Fleetwood Mac for sure! Been feeling the «Tango In The Night» LP recently.
M: Hmmmmmm. «No Rain», or Alice Coltrane's version of «A Love Supreme».
A: This seems like a very alternative rock moment. «No Rain» would be tight.
M: To prepare for a real important date I'm gonna shower and listen to «Diamonds & Wood».
A: «Start Me Up» is great for getting psyched!
M: Not really trying to do that. I guess we would probably destroy the smoke detector though ha!
A: For sure!
M: The most over-the-top Byron Stingley-led house I can find. Or some Bobby O with a male vocal.
M: Basically cuz those hi-hats are chunky enough to keep me awake. «My piece bang glass tables.»
A: Can't remember the last time I went jogging. But I imagine «Endless Race» would be perfect.
M: Yo, I just got Rickrolled at the barbershop today hahaha-no. Let's be serious.
A: For some reason «Knuck If You Buck» comes to mind.
M: Or anything off Quique. Hate that Godley & Creme. HA!
M: Playing off the iPhone.
A: Very hot!!! Giving away my secrets!
M: Might as well take all senses to capacity on that one.
A: That just sounds totally terrifying.
M: Drexciya for sure. Or that Der Zyklus «I'm shapeshifting from place to place/Bending time/Cuving space» cut. Gonna help me control my spin game and vanquish. Detroit shit helps me feel sleek and on point, you know??
M: On repeat so I can zoooooone.
A: Ever since I heard Manuel Gottsching recorded «E2-E4» to listen to on an upcoming flight, I agree it is perfect plane music. But I rarely listen to music when flying.
M: I'm just gonna go ahead and hope Home Alone is on TV or something.
A: Swimmers once stayed in a very scary place in Amsterdam but I don't recall any music that night. In terms of scary tunes though the screwed and chopped version of David Banner «Might Getcha» is always rather terrifying.
M: A million songs via iPhone youtube cuz I'll be bored as shit.
A: The whole LP!
M: RAP RAP RAP and more RAP. Ummmm.
A: Always think about this one on public transportation.
M: I'm gonna listen to a bunch of 30 second clips on Rush Hour almost guaranteed, and then probably watch the Lo-Life's documentary trailer, and then from there I'll probably pull up Fat Joe & Big Pun «Twinz 98» and then skip the Fat Joe part in favor of John Beltran or something. YOU SEE?
A: Probably gonna be a bunch of jams on Youtube of deep house records I am checking out on Discogs, haha.
M: The coffee maker, ha! And anything off «Earthquake Island.»
A: Yesterday it was «Let's Get Fucked Up». Today it was «Don't Stop The Music».
M: Cuz I'm just gonna decide to be cheesy like that. Rain also means that drum-and-bass-press-photo style-parka-and-baseball-hat image pops in my mind, so I get images of «Inner City Life» or something too. Maybe that Zomby «Natalia's Song» to bring shit up to date.
