I grew up listening to a lot of jazz and blues. My dad would constantly be putting on records all day. Lots of John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington anything that Billy Higgins had played on, lots of Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald. But a record that sticks out to me would be Pink Floyd «The Wall». My babysitter Ryan was in high school. He would pick me up from elementary school in his maroon chevy pickup truck and he would blast Pink Floyd and drive really fast. I had never listened that kind of music before and it was pretty weird and scary and exciting all at the same time. Ryan was so cool and wore a leather jacket all the time, even in the summer.
Summer break when I was 10 I found the green album in a stack of cds in our living room. I was immediately obsessed and found an extension cord for my boom box and brought it outside to our front lawn so could lay in the sun and try to memorize every song.
