Sevendust - Denial

S: It’s heavy and pissed off. Like my style of driving. I live in L.A. and here you have to drive like this. It’s called defensive driving. Either you get them or they get you.
Foo Fighters - The Pretender
J: It’s from their last album which is in my truck back home right now. So, that’s what I’m listening to while driving these days.

Top 10 favourite albums of all time
No. 1
The Beatles - White Album
(EMI, 1968). Every good song ever written is on this masterpiece. There’s punk, blues, jazz, rock, everything you want. There’s everything on it. You can’t get bored listening to this album. It has such a good variety, something nobody ever achieved ever since.
No. 2
Soundgarden - Superunknown
(A&M, 1994). It just hit a nerve when it came out in 1993. It’s by far their best work. It melts the good songwriting with the very tight production of Michael Beinhorn. He also worked the Chili Peppers before, and later on with Marilyn Manson and Korn. Cornell said that working with Beinhorn made the whole process of recording a never ending story. This guy is so much into sounds, almost anal about it and made the band play these songs over and over again.
No. 3
Deftones - White Pony
(Maverick, 2000). There are so many good songs on it. And it took the Deftones on a whole new level. They found out what they wanted to sound like with this album. A significant growth in the band's sound; incorporating New Wave and metal. We really don’t skip any track when listening to this. It’s perfect in it’s entirety.
No. 4
Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf
(Interscope, 2002). It was the album that we listened to when we toured Europe for the first time. Shaun was in a miserable emotional state, but that album got him through. It’s not only one hell of a rock ‘n roll album, it also features Dave Grohl.
No. 5
Nirvana - Nevermind
(Geffen, 1991). It’s the album that made us want to make music. The reason I picked up a guitar (Shaun). Probably the most influential album of this list. The production of Butch Vig makes it even more intense. And this is probably what John Lennon would have sounded like if he did a punk rock album.
No. 6
Alice In Chains - Dirt
(Columbia, 1992). It’s definitely the highlight of Alice In Chain’s catalogue. It’s brutal to listen to. It’s very, very personal. Many of the lyrics by Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell deal with depression and drug abuse. It’s basically a twelve song cry for help.
No. 7
Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
(Epic, 1992). We saw them play in a small club in Dallas infront of about 200 people back then. They levelled it. Again a reason why we wanted to be in a band. They’re playing together again, and we will even have some gigs with them soon. Which will be absolutely great to see them live again. Since there’s so much crap out there nowadays, it’s cool that all the old bands are reforming. From a fan point of view it’s fantastic. You can see all those bands live which you missed out when they were around for the first time.
No. 8
Tool - Opiate
(Zoo, 1992)We haven’t heard of them when we were introduced to this first EP they did. It was released before their debut album «Undertow». We didn’t know what we were listening to, but it affected us heavily. On the vinyl pressings, side 2 is double grooved. Depending on where the needle falls, «The Gaping Lotus Experience» will play or «Cold And Ugly (Live)» will play.
No. 9
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
(Warner, 1991). It’s quite different from the stuff they did prior to this. It’s based less on funk and heavy metal guitar riffs. It’s much more diverse and musically challenging. And this one particular acoustic song «I Could Have Lied» is the song I still listen to at least once a week (Shaun). It means so much to me.
No. 10
Sevendust - Animosity
(TVT, 2001). We were in New York, recording «Disclaimer», and Sevendust was playing in town. We saw the cover of this album and thought they must be interesting. Actually we missed them back then, but have seen them live a few times since. And they really are the best live band we ever saw. Their music melts heavy and melodic elements, they even play beautiful ballads.
